Bank Independent Boasts New Desktop, Mobile Websites

Bank Independent

With each website project, there's at least one thing that stays with you long after the big launch day has come and gone. Sometimes it's a really cool new feature (of course we would get excited about that), sometimes it's a creative solution to a complex problem, and sometimes is something about the companies and people that work together to see the project to fruition. There's plenty good to be said about the Bank Independent project, but what has stuck with me most is the client's involvement and what it – together with Square Root and some key software and … [Read more...]

Alabama Municipal Electric Authority Website Successfully Migrated to WordPress

AMEA

Not too long ago we wrapped up a website project that was a little different from our usual fare. It was a conversion from one CMS to another. Don't get me wrong, Square Root Interactive has converted plenty of sites to a new CMS, but usually the original implementation was done by another agency. In this case, we converted the site we ourselves designed and implemented for the Alabama Municipal Electric Authority back in 2009. Originally, built using Graffiti, the new site is using mega-popular WordPress. For us the project was easy to implement, and we even had … [Read more...]

The Real Costs of Cheap Web Solutions

Real Cost

When trying to win a new client, one question comes up again and again: "Why does Square Root cost so much when other places offer 'the same services' so cheaply?" My answer is always the same: “There’s always a cost, the real question is ‘who’s paying it?’” It's true, cheap website development and hosting services (yes, I’m calling it cheap), usually offer low initial setup and hosting costs. However, when the time comes that you need help editing your website, you're often left fending for yourself or – even worse – wading through hundreds of … [Read more...]

Making a Difference: Children’s Hope Ministries Adds Online Sponsorship Opportunities

Children's Hope Ministry

I have worked with many companies and organizations in my career and I have enjoyed them all. But there are some projects that stand out from the rest and Children’s Hope Ministries happens to be one of those for me. I love it when I can help an organization like this one make a difference in the world. And that is just what they’re doing with their new online donations and children sponsorship program. Children’s Hope Ministries, a not-for-profit organization, is the orphan ministry of First Baptist Church here in Montgomery. It provides basic resources … [Read more...]

Pheed: Is This the Next Big Thing in Social Media?

Pheed

I could argue that social media trends are hard to reliably predict. That’s been demonstrated over and over by the scores of “The New Facebook” flops (Google Plus, anyone?) we’ve seen in recent years. It makes it challenging for us at Square Root to advise our clients on which social media tools they should turn to for self-promotion. But there is a new one making waves called Pheed that I would like to introduce to you. Pheed's catch phrase is "Express yourself." The new social network (and top downloaded mobile app) is kind of a conglomeration of all … [Read more...]
